PS3 Weekly News Roundup

PS3 Weekly News Roundup

June 25, 2010  |  News, Weekly Update

The week after E3 is always something of a come-down, where the only news to be had is the left overs from the show. In a week dominated by the release of the iPhone4, Sony still managed to drop a few interesting crumbs for us to sweep up.

Sony’s focus has been on PlayStation Plus, the premium subscription-based service. They’re offering LBP for free download when you sign up, and in the first couple of months are offering Wipeout HD, Zen Pinball and a few smaller games for free. What has become clear though, is that these games are only playable while your subscription is live – cancel it or let it expire, and the games are unplayable. Swines. Also, 4-user cross game chat is available to everyone, premium or not, but the conversation must be started by a PlayStation Plus member. It’s a bit annoying, but at least non subscribers can use the system. A bit.

Elsewhere, more Gran Turismo details have been leaked, including kart racing and a track creator. Whether this means you can just tweak the tracks already in the game, or make new ones from scratch is still unclear, but the thought of racing round any track you can think of makes me feel slightly giddy. Imagine having every F1 track available, or make up your own BTCC championship. There are enough people who excel in creating stuff like this, so if you really can make up your own tracks, like ModNation, it’ll be unbelievable.

The only other interesting development this week was the official announcement of Move. Game have already knocked a few quid off the price of a single Move controller, but if you pay the RRP for the camera, one Move remote and a sub controller you’ll be parting with a touch under £80. Not cheap, but still cheaper than buying Kinect for the 360. In fact, you can add on another Move remote and still be under the rumoured Kinect price…

Hopefully next week will bring us something more exciting, but the GT5 news alone made me want November to happen right now.

Until next time…

Iain
