Worms 2: Armageddon
A Junkie Gamer Review

Who knew that homicidal worms could be so charming and fun? Well, that’s what you find out the minute you fire up Worms 2: Armageddon. You command a crack command unit of deadly worms on a mission to wipe out the enemy through any means possible. To begin with, you select your team, name the members and give them their own comedy voice from the 60 options available. Then you set about on a 35 level game that is both frustrating and addictive in equal measures.

The general premise of the game is defeat the enemy by any means possible, and I certainly mean this. The variety of weapons to hand is fantastic, from the simple hand grenade and bazooka to the amazing Holy Hand Grenade and Sheep (yes, I said sheep). To start with your team of 4 Worms is dispersed throughout the map, and from here you use turn based strategy to eliminate the enemy. You have 30 seconds to choose your weapon, and take fire at your enemy, all the while making sure your own cadet isn’t left in a vulnerable position when the computer takes its turn, because it will punish you.

To keep the player on their toes, there are a few challenges thrown into the mix every now and then. These challenges are a great way to get players to use weapons in new ways to solve the problems in hand, and I found myself using said weapons more when i came back into combat sections again.

Now, as with all Worms’s games the real joy of the game is in the multiplayer side of things and it is here that Worms 2: Armageddon does so well. The game features up to 4 player local or online play. From playing online, I experienced no lag or any difficulties getting at game. My only issue was the lack of being able to defend your honour and have a rematch with your opponent.

Having talked about the gameplay it is important to mention the visuals and audio, they are both fantastic. It’s a 2D game with a very polished art style. And the audio is just as good, as mentioned above you can give your Worms a choice of 60 different voices. And the weapons and explosions certainly give a good bang for their buck.

Overall, this game is a must have for the fans of solid multiplayer action and frustrating but addictive puzzles.

9/10
