Droplitz
A Junkie Gamer Review
Droplitz is a puzzle game recently released on XBLA, a game in which you have to create a path for droplitz to make their way from the top of the board to the bottom. The premise of the game is very easy to understand, and in fact reminds me of the hacking mini-game in Bioshock, but don’t be fooled into thinking this game is simple to play.
You move the tiles on the board clockwise and counter-clockwise in order to create a path for these droplitz to reach the bottom of the board. The board however dispenses the drops at a constant rate, and once a path has been created and the drop has arrived at its destination, the tiles disappear new ones are imported and the whole fiasco starts over again. This is hard at the best of times, but now take into consideration that you just don’t have one droplitz dispenser but two and this moves up with difficulty.
To start off with I found this game as hard as nails, but soon I got into the groove of it all things started to make sense. I don’t know if it was down to the melodic music and the constant urge to better my top score, but I simply couldn’t turn this game off. The replayability is made all the more appealing as new challenges and boards are only unlocked once you beat a certain score.
Things to note about the game however, Is the lack of multiplayer and the very steep learning curve. But it is certainly a very enjoyable experience, if a little frustrating at times.
7/10
