After finishing the guns blazing option I got around to trying the stealth option for the Road to Ruin chapter. Dom and Marcus don a set of Theron guard amour and head straight into the home of the Locusts
The following description may include spoilers, so be warned.
The progression through this chapter is guided by Dom, and it is quite similar to movement in the Hitman and Splinter Cell series of games, move around from cover to cover, and don’t get too close to raise suspicion. Due to the Locusts keen sense of smell it is advisable to stay as far away from them as possible to avoid alarm. There is a nice addition of a heart beat noise and rumble when things are getting a little too close for comfort, which gives you a little reminder to get a move on or get out of sight.
Though the option is a stealth one, things revert back to typical gears style midway through Road to Ruin. From here you simply pick up on the chapter as if you had chosen the guns blazing option. Odd as it sounds, this was welcome relief as Stealth and Gears of War just do not mix in my own opinion. However it is good that there was an option to play the chapter in two distinct styles, if this was branched out on a little more it would certainly add more replayability to the single player campaign.
Overall the Stealth option lasts around 30 minutes, and the reason for this is very simple, Dom pretty much spoon feeds you the route to take through the Locusts without being spotted. The thing with stealth games is that they consist of a fair share of trial and error, but with Dom leading the way the stealth becomes a simple case of follow the leader. So is it truly stealth after all?
